Meet soul-singer Chris Turner and his first release of original music LOVElife Is A Challenge.
This is the type of sound that should come with a smooth adult-beverage and something that produces vapors – a fireplace, incense, cigar, or whatever your vice may be. From the first track, the set hits you where the soul sits. Crisp vocals that stand on their own over organic instrumentation are all it took to win me over. The texture of the album took me to a personal place that is sometimes hard to reach given the production polish that most new R&B music undergoes today. If you dig it, then it’s a sure bet that it did the same for you.
Now, on to the artist behind the music…
Chris Turner is an Oakland native now residing in NYC. He has sung backup for Bilal and Esperanza Spalding. Turner is a member of the jazz group, Erimaj (I’ve been told they delivered a dope album in 2012 as well). And he a member of collective “The Romantic Movement”, which consists of artists and producers that include Jesse Boykins III, MeLo-X, Mara Hruby, and MoRuf.
As potent as LOVElife Is A Challenge is, it may only be a teaser for what is next to come. Check it out now and follow the movement.
