Is Mathew Knowles Really That Shady?

For the record, I have been an Destiny’s Child fan since DAY ONE. I supported all of their albums as a group and even purchased Beyoncé, Kelly, Letoya and Michelle’s solo efforts. But – the madness HAS TO STOP.

It seems as if none of the other women have been able to attain the same success (or even close) as Beyoncé. I just don’t get it. ALL of them were talented and there’s no reason why they shouldn’t have lucrative careers by now. What Gives??

So, as you know already, Miss Letoya is BACK on the scene and hitting hard with her recent singles “Not Anymore”, “She Aint Got” and “Regret”. One would believe that she should be reaping the benefits of her success, the fruits of her labor even. Letoya is talented!

But, then came the rumors of the BET blackballing. Rumor has it that Letoya was scheduled to perform and Mathew refused to let that happen. It is also rumored that Mathew has done everything from paying off promoters to paying off (some) stations NOT to play Letoya’s music!

Now — mind you, “Regret” is #14 on the billboard charts. It peaked at #11 and has spent a total of 12 WEEKS on the charts. There’s NO REASON why she shouldn’t be performing and blasting on almost every urban radio station – right? I mean, “Regret” is the 5th played song on urban radio! I hear it DAILY here in the DMV… So, Letoya should be above the drama now — right?

Mathew Knowles just CAN’T let it go. He wont. He refuses apparently.

Let what go you ask?

See, everyone knows when Destiny’s Child was originally started, that Beyoncé, Kelly, Letoya and Latavia was being bullied managed by Mathew – who is Beyoncé’s father. Well, somewhere along the line Letoya and Latavia felt like they weren’t being represented fairly or equally and they sued him. Originally, Letoya and Latavia sued Mathew, Beyoncé AND Kelly, but later dropped the suit against their fellow band-mates. Eventually, Letoya and LaTavia won an undisclosed amount and won their rights to the royalties as the original Destiny’s Child members.

The drama should’ve ended there right? Nope. Letoya and Latavia had to sue them yet again in 2002 for those “Survivor” lyrics. They claimed that the lyrics were in violation of their previous settlement. Whether they won that suit or not is unknown to me.

So, now Mathew is rumored to be doing everything in his power to see that Letoya, Kelly and every other possible chart topper is not even close to knocking down Beyoncé. I don’t know how true these rumors are but The Prophet Blog reports that Mathew is STILL at it.

“I am just pissed off with this shady business and I’ve been closer to God lately so I feel I have to throw this out there. I’m going to give you a little more of my experience. So…. Mathew is in a perpetual fight. I don’t understand what he’s trying to prove but I guess that’s what keeps his life exciting. You think he would have moved on by now but on the contrary, he’s totally obsessed with this Letoya Luckett girl. Wasting time making sure radio stations don’t play her songs, and particularly right now making sure “Regret” doesn’t get any bigger than it already is.

I absolutely don’t understand why he thinks her success would overshadow Beyoncé’s. Beyoncé is aware of what’s going on but she’s not saying anything to stop her dad. I told her to say something but she said to me “I trust my dad”. Anyway, look at the Urban radio charts, Letoya is #5. That’s a pretty good number but you can notice that the most important radio stations aren’t playing it. Thanks to who? You guessed it right. Rumors you’ve probably heard before are true. Mathew is paying these stations off to boycott her. These expenses are covered up as a trip to go see Beyoncé’s tour for review. What’s nice is that these stations’ music directors can pick two to three dates anywhere in the world and travel for free. Mathew of course pays for travel expenses as well as $850 “courtesy checks” for…. meals. “

Now, I don’t usually go with rumors. I try to stay away from anything that’s controversial and possibly false. But then, I came across Necole Bitchie and Letoya News articles online and I’m honestly feeling like there’s NO WAY they can be wrong. I mean, Letoya News even posted some of the hottest radio stations and THEY ARE NOT PLAYING LETOYA’S MUSIC WHATSOEVER! How could they ignore such an R&B hit like “Regret”???

No way these “Payola” conspiracies are ALL rumors with little to no truth in them! I could be wrong, but Lady Gaga is the only other artist really giving Beyoncé a run for her money. Now, she wants to collaborate with her? Why Lady Gaga and NOT Letoya? Why Lady Gaga and NOT Amerie or Taylor Swift? Hmmm…..

Something seems shady to me… I’m praying that Letoya remains classy and has success in all her career choices. It saddens me that Letoya, Kelly, or even Michelle are being swept under the rug like this. None of their albums have done as well. I haven’t even seen their videos in the same capacity as Beyoncé’s unless its a throwback Destiny’s Child video. (hmmmm… again.)

Think about it: Have any of the former Destiny’s Child members been NEARLY as successful as Beyoncé since she went on her own?

The more I think about it, the more this sounds like a personal vendetta.

Not a good look for the Beyoncé camp.
